Protection in the Grave – by Shaykh Mufti Saiful Islam

Surah Al Mulk encapsulates the purpose of our creation that we were created to live a life of obedience to our Lord and Creator.

This can only be made to manifest through our good deeds which we perform solely for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, in order to seek His pleasure. The Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam told his Ummah to recite this Surah every night and learn this Surah by heart.

The importance of this Surah is stressed due to the fact that the Holy Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam never slept until he had finished reciting this Surah. Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas radhiyallahu anhu said that when a person enters their grave, the punishment will come to a person’s feet.

Surah Al- Mulk will intercede for the person, warding off the Angel of Punishment by saying that the person would stand in the night prayer and recite this Surah every night.
